The silence, broken only by the clock trying to tell the time in the world of the little kitchen. This was a thing he always used to know, a small daily occurrence. He set the clock to the right time as it had run out of batteries, maybe some days ago. It had stopped at 7.30 pm one evening without him realizing. He had, that day, the horrible feeling that something was missing. It took him two days before finally realizing he had forgotten the old clock, his nose deep in his computer, drinking tea after tea after tea.
Things were really calm these days. He had all the time to think, maybe a little too much. The time to tell himself that things were never ran smoothly, especially when he wanted it. He was quarter Master, and even then he had the feeling that he was inexperience. Three agents had been killed on the field because of errors, he had been negligent. Malory was the first, in silence to make him guilty. Not directly, that was simply…Obvious.
He thought too much, a thing that not helped.
He was still on the loose, no news yet.. But he knew where he was, he had located a while ago. He just had not told anyone, he didn’t contact himself. For others, Bond was invisible. After all, it wasn’t a new thing, the agent was better than anyone else at being invisible. For the moment, nothing was really important, nothing for calling the best secret agent of the United Kingdom, nobody but Q asked himself,
Tonight, he had shut down his computer. The clock was the only one able to talk to the young man. The light was close too. Maybe he had drunk a little. Too much. He never drank, not like all these young who were always outside at night. He preferred tea. In front of his computer, he was able to hack any data system available in to help the MI6 or the simple agents. But here, he was alone, people always said that he must go outside, go to see people. No, he was alone. Surely he had made some attempts before! But this never ended well.
He loved museums, horse racing, walking in the park at dawn.. But always with a phone. Anybody has a default after all. He wrote the same thing over and over for an hour or so. No, he only wanted this bloody idiot, he had to admit it. He was a bull dog: always able to bite and not fun to live with. But somehow, he wasn’t able to ever be mad at Bond. After a moment which felt like an eternity, he pushed the “send” button. It was a simple message after all, like ‘goodbye’. An empty message, no sentiment. 007 wasn’t able to see his phone after all. Maybe one day, he will be able to understand.
The apartment was clean, all was clean. Sitting against the tub he still listened to the clatter of the clock. He gritted his teeth.
How many times will this be? He doesn’t want to know about it. Not anything else but the sound of the clock. He gritted his teeth more. He gritted his teeth while the knife sunk into his arm, a soft claw of cold metal. Was he shaking? Fear? Cold? Yes it was spawning here. The window on the other side of the apartment was open. As the outside world lay still, the cool air breeze flowed in through the open window. He was a freak, an idiot all along. As his clothes took the colour of blood, he melted in tears.
Take time, like the clock. Tick tock.
He wished that 007 were here. But, he was all alone, as always.
